Went bush last week to Kakadu National Park, NT Australia in preparation for an upcoming family show that I am directing for the Darwin festival. The show features “Jabiru Dreaming” by composer Peter Sculthorpe whose musical language was very influenced by his time spent in the area.
This was my first visit to Kakadu and I was immediately struck by it’s vast and ancient beauty. There were very few people about and I occasionally had a gorge or cliff to myself!
I also ventured to Gumbalanya (West ArnhemLand) with an Aboriginal guide where I climbed and crawled to view ancient rock paintings. The area is so green and the water filled with pelicans… oo and fortunately I spotted a Jabiru! An absolute paradise.
